Bill Duane, a senior manager at Google, attempted to neutralize the situation with \u201cgrace and compassion<\/a>\u201c\u2014and more than a little condescension. He directed the crowd to \u201ccheck in with your body\u201d and \u201cfeel what it\u2019s like to be in conflict with people with heartfelt ideas\u201d after a spirited tug-of-war for the banner concluded at the edge of the stage.<\/p>\n

The Wisdom 2.0 team issued a rapid response<\/a>,\u00a0lauding its corporate sponsor for its kindness and compassion. Of course, only in a country where\u00a0corporations are legally people could a corporation be mindful, too.<\/p>\n

Policies that privilege tech companies like Google,\u00a0Heart of the City activists write<\/a>,\u00a0<\/strong>come at the expense of local residents, and contributes to \u201cdisplacement, privatization of public assets, for-profit surveillance, profiling, policing, and targeting of activist communities.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
