The day began with the Dalai Lama serving as guest chaplain in the Senate chamber. He offered a prayer from \u201cA Guide to the Bodhisattva\u2019s Way of Life by the Buddhist<\/a> master Shantideva, which he said was his favorite. He devoted his prayer to \u201cBuddha and all other gods.\u201d Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA) welcomed\u00a0his call to \u201chelp dispel the misery of the world\u201d \u2026<\/p>\n
The office of the Senate Chaplain said it was probably the first time that a Buddhist had given the opening prayer in the body.
