This just went up on the website of the Interpreter Foundation: \u00a0\u201cHugh Nibley Observed: Nibley and the Environment,<\/a>\u201d written and presented by Terry Ball<\/a>:<\/p>\n \u201cI am honored to participate in this lecture series remembering the studies, life, and legacy of Professor Hugh Nibley. I did not have the privilege of personally knowing Professor Nibley. Calabro<\/a>:<\/p>\n David M. Calabro spoke at the Tracing Ancient Threads in the Book of Moses Conference on Saturday, September 19, 2020 under the title of \u201c\u2018This Thing Is a Similitude\u2019: A Typological Approach to Moses 5:1\u201315 and Ancient Apocryphal Literature.\u201d His paper examines similarities between the account of the sacrifice and epiphany of the first parents in Moses 5:1-15 and analogous accounts found in apocryphal literature of the late antique and medieval periods. Apocryphal texts I will consider include primarily the Greek Life of Adam and Eve (also known as the Apocalypse of Moses) and secondarily the Conflict of Adam and Eve with Satan, the Cave of Treasures, the medieval Jewish Sefer Raziel, and Islamic collections of Qisas al-Anbiya\u2019 (\u201cStories of the Prophets\u201d). The focus will be not only on the content of the narratives, but also on structural elements such as voice and narrative flow. Based on this examination, I will argue that some of these texts have a common type of origin, being both revelatory and oriented to a ritual context, while others belong to different types associated with different historical contexts. I will show how this typological approach could inform dialogue between scholars of Restoration scripture and those researching the origins of other traditions\u2019 sacred texts.<\/p>\n All of the conference presentations were filmed, and both video and audio recordings of each presentation are available. A YouTube playlist is also available at https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/playlist?list=PLRMn4gyXMWLv7A618LA-cCvxMqWRk8kxI<\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n I was also very pleased to see this: \u00a0\u201cApostle Extends Eid al-Fitr Greeting to Muslims around the World\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n With that in mind, it seems appropriate to mention this news item: \u00a0\u201cServing Together with the Interfaith Community during Ramadan: Representatives of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints<\/a> support Ramadan interfaith initiatives\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n And to share a couple of quotations that were first shared online by Alex Barclay:<\/p>\n I want to remind you of the fact that, after more than three and a half decades of meticulous effort and stunning productivity, Royal Skousen\u2019s landmark project on the textual history of the Book of Mormon is finally approaching completion. \u00a0To mark the culmination of his work, the Interpreter Foundation is partnering with BYU Studies to celebrate the achievements and the results of this mammoth enterprise.<\/p>\n Royal Skousen will speak at the event, summarizing what the Critical Text Project has taught us. \u00a0His frequent collaborator Stanford Carmack will also speak.<\/p>\n We haven\u2019t yet settled on the precise location for the evening event, but it will occur somewhere on the campus of Brigham Young University in Provo, at 7 PM on Saturday, 10 August 2024. \u00a0(Please mark your calendar if you are interested in attending. \u00a0Further details will be forthcoming.) \u00a0That will be the Saturday immediately following this year\u2019s annual FAIR Conference<\/a>, which \u2014 in a departure from past precedents, will be held at the American Heritage School in Salt Lake City, Utah<\/a>, on 8-9 August 2024. \u00a0Please mark your calendars for that, as well!<\/p>\n I will be speaking at the 2024 FAIR conference, which, this year, will bear the title of FAIR and Valiant Voices: United in Faith\u00a0<\/em>and will represent the alliance of two distinct organizations, FAIR<\/a> and something called Valiant Conference<\/a>. \u00a0This is a bit of an experiment, I understand, so we\u2019re all curious to see how smoothly and well it will run. \u00a0I hope to see you there.<\/p>\n<\/a><\/a>
