With that in mind, I call attention yet again to the Mormonr link and, now, I want to suggest two additional links that are likewise relevant to this matter:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>This article appeared in the <em>Deseret News<\/em> just before 10 PM last night: \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.deseret.com\/faith\/2024\/11\/12\/nazis-disliked-latter-day-saints\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">\u201cNewly published Nazi archives reveal the regime\u2019s disdain for the Church of Jesus Christ: Nearly 500 pages of Gestapo files detail Nazi surveillance on Latter-day Saints and the quiet resistance of German members.\u201d<\/a><\/li>\n<li>And this article, written for <em>Meridian Magazine<\/em> by Jacob Z. Hess (who is always worth reading), appeared yesterday: \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/latterdaysaintmag.com\/really-wonderful-people-voted-for-that-other-candidate-are-you-okay-with-that\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">\u201cReally wonderful people voted for that other candidate. Are you okay with that?\u201d<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I will continue to resist efforts to divide the Church along political lines. \u00a0(If you have the stomach for reading through them, the comments following the <em>Deseret News<\/em> article are sadly revealing, as people on both sides of the political aisle attempt to reinterpret a piece of historical writing about the Third Reich as an article [and perhaps the result of a conspiracy] that\u2019s \u201creally\u201d about Mr. Donald J. Trump.) \u00a0I also reject and resist efforts to portray Republican voters in the recent presidential election \u2014 and, specifically, Latter-day Saints who voted Republican \u2014 as, for that fact alone, essentially Nazi sympathizers or proto-fascists. \u00a0They are not, and it\u2019s a disservice to our society and a serious offense against civility to suggest otherwise.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_38464\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-38464\" style=\"width: 596px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/186\/2016\/12\/Wankerfleck.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-38464\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/186\/2016\/12\/Wankerfleck.jpg\" alt=\"Bayrische Landschaft\" width=\"596\" height=\"447\"><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-38464\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A landscape in Bavaria (Wikimedia Commons public domain image)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Here is something that seems to me very worthy of support and that, I think, some readers will find interesting: \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.deseret.com\/lifestyle\/2024\/11\/13\/quilt-show-auction-benefit-fetal-medicine-center-intermountain-health\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">\u201cWoman\u2019s gift of comfort, joy outlives her, finished by friends:\u00a0The Holiday Quilt Show will benefit fetal medicine center, help pay for cutting-edge ultrasound machine\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_68124\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-68124\" style=\"width: 597px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/186\/2018\/12\/25180.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-68124\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/186\/2018\/12\/25180.jpg\" alt=\"Aotearoa's first temple\" width=\"597\" height=\"336\"><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-68124\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Christmas at the Hamilton New Zealand Temple<br>(Wikimedia Commons public domain image)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Every single year, without fail, theists and theism try to hijack Christmas for their obnoxious ideas and their offensive schemes. \u00a0And it\u2019s clear that Christmas 2024 will be no exception. \u00a0Here, to illustrate my point, are a couple of links from the <em>Christopher Hitchens Memorial \u201cHow Religion Poisons Everything\u201d File<\/em>\u2122 to a project that is especially irritating because of its plainly global reach:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.deseret.com\/faith\/2024\/11\/13\/elder-gary-e-stevenson-patrick-mahomes-travis-kelce-help-announce-2024-giving-machines-locations\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">\u201cElder Gary E. Stevenson, Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce help announce 2024 Giving Machines locations:\u00a0Light the World Giving Machines have raised $32 million for local and global charitable organizations in its first seven years\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org\/article\/light-the-world-giving-machines-2024\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">\u201cYou Can Lift Another at a Light the World Giving Machine: In more than 100 locations, Light the World Giving Machines make serving others a joyful and memorable experience\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>But, of course, theistic aggressions aren\u2019t limited only to the season of the Winter Solstice. \u00a0Here\u2019s a representative specimen of the sort of thing that, sadly, goes on throughout the year:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org\/article\/justserve-aids-relief-efforts-after-summer-storms-hit-houston-texas\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">\u201cJustServe Aids Relief Efforts After Summer Storms Hit Houston, Texas:\u00a0JustServe fills a role to gather volunteers after derecho storm and Hurricane Beryl; youth continue to serve\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>And then there\u2019s this. \u00a0It pertains to the state that some wits call <em>Utard<\/em>, which is home to a large number of the people that some wits call either <em>Morgbots<\/em> or <em>Mor(m)ons<\/em>: \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.deseret.com\/utah\/2024\/11\/12\/donating-state-charity-rankings-service-giving-season\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">\u201cUtah ranks 2nd among most charitable states in 2024:\u00a0Women are also responsible for 64% of all charitable donations in the United States\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0 Here\u2019s another book from the Interpreter Foundation that you might want to consider as a Christmas gift (even to yourself!): \u00a0The Temple: Plates, Patterns, &amp; Patriarchs:\u00a0Proceedings of the Sixth Interpreter Foundation Matthew B.
