London, England: Arkana. A fine, comprehensive study, the first in Britain.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Hagan, John C. III <\/strong>(Ed.) (2017). <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/0826221033\/?tag=iandsorg-20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" class=\" decorated-link\"><em><strong>The Science of Near-Death Experiences<\/strong><\/em><\/a>. Columbia, MO: University of Missouri Press. Evidence-based research on NDEs by physicians and scientists, including those who themselves have had an NDE. The recollections of NDErs often refute physicians\u2019 scientific explanation of how an oxygen-starved brain can produce such vivid recollections.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Moody, Raymond<\/strong> (1975). <em><a href=\"http:\/\/astore.amazon.com\/iandsorg-20\/detail\/0062517392\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" class=\" decorated-link\"><strong>Life After Life<\/strong><\/a>.<\/em> New York: Bantam. The book that began it all. Easy reading, basic. An excellent phenomenological treatment of NDEs. While some findings have since been clarified and expanded by further research, this book remains the basic work in the field of near-death studies.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Moody, Raymond &amp; Paul Perry<\/strong> (2010). <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/0824948130\/ref=nosim?tag=iandsorg-20&amp;linkCode=sb1&amp;camp=212353&amp;creative=380549\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" class=\" decorated-link\"><strong>Glimpses of Eternity: Sharing a Loved One\u2019s Passage from This Life to the Next<\/strong><\/a>.<\/em> Guideposts. On the related phenomenon of <strong>Shared Death Experiences<\/strong> in which persons present at the death of a loved one experience leaving their own body, viewing the life review of their loved one and traveling part-way toward the Light.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Long, Jeffrey &amp; Paul Perry <\/strong>(2010). <a href=\"http:\/\/astore.amazon.com\/iandsorg-20\/detail\/0061452572\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" class=\" decorated-link\"><em><strong>Evidence of the Afterlife: The Science of Near-Death Experiences<\/strong><\/em><\/a>. Long presents nine lines of evidence that we survive bodily death, based on an analysis of 1,300 NDE accounts from his <a href=\"https:\/\/iands.org\/component\/weblinks\/weblink\/15.html?Itemid=428\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" class=\" decorated-link\">NDERF web site<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Miller, J. Steve<\/strong> (2012). <em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/astore.amazon.com\/iandsorg-20\/detail\/B00A3MU6H2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" class=\" decorated-link\">Near-Death Experiences as Evidence for the Existence of God and Heaven: A Brief Introduction in Plain Language<\/a><\/strong><\/em>. Miller presents the latest evidence from NDEs in this well-researched introduction in plain English.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ring, Kenneth<\/strong> (1982). <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/0688012531\/ref=nosim?tag=iandsorg-20&amp;linkCode=sb1&amp;camp=212353&amp;creative=380549\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" class=\" decorated-link\"><em><strong>Life at Death: A Scientific Investigation of the Near-Death Experience<\/strong>.<\/em><\/a> The first quantifiable attempt to describe the NDE itself. Most other researchers have corroborated the basic findings reported in this book.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ring, Kenneth <\/strong>(1985). <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/0688062687\/ref=nosim?tag=iandsorg-20&amp;linkCode=sb1&amp;camp=212353&amp;creative=380549\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" class=\" decorated-link\"><strong>Heading toward Omega: In search of the meaning of the near-death experience<\/strong><\/a>.<\/em> New York: Quill. The early work documenting changes after a NDE.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ring, Kenneth <\/strong>(1999). <a href=\"http:\/\/astore.amazon.com\/iandsorg-20\/detail\/0595434975\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" class=\" decorated-link\"><em><strong>Mindsight: Near-Death and Out-of-Body Experiences in the Blind.<\/strong><\/em><\/a> Palo Alto, CA: William James Center for Consciousness Studies. Evidence that the blind can see during NDEs and OBEs and that during NDEs sight has a different quality and is a kind of \u201ctranscendental awareness\u201d referred to as \u201cmindsight\u201d.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Rivas, Titus, Anny Dirven &amp; Rudolf Smit<\/strong> (2023). <em><a href=\"http:\/\/astore.amazon.com\/iandsorg-20\/detail\/0997560800\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" class=\" decorated-link\"><strong>The Self Does Not Die: Verified paranormal phenomena from near-death experiences<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0(2nd ed.). <\/em>Durham, NC: IANDS Publications. A compilation of 104 accounts of paranormal phenomena during NDEs that were later verified as accurate by independent sources. The authors include an extensive discussion of the implications of these cases for the question of survival of physical death, as well as the arguments skeptics have raised. The authors have gone back to the original sources\u2014the people involved in each case, whenever possible\u2014rather than relying on secondhand sources. This is a unique collection of empirical data that any scholar worthy of the name must take into account.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sabom, Michael\u00a0B. <\/strong>(1984). <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/0671464469\/?tag=iandsorg-20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" class=\" decorated-link\"><strong>Recollections of Death: A Medical Investigation<\/strong><\/a>. <\/em>A clearly written and fascinating discussion of the first physician-conducted study of near-death experiences, with special attention to verifiable out-of-body experiences. Highly recommended.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sutherland, Cherie<\/strong> (1992). <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/1863590706\/ref=nosim?tag=iandsorg-20&amp;linkCode=sb1&amp;camp=212353&amp;creative=380549\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" class=\" decorated-link\"><strong>Transformed by the Light: Life after Near-Death Experiences<\/strong><\/a>. <\/em>Sydney, Australia: Bantam. Includes near-death experiences in children.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sutherland, Cherie<\/strong> (1995). <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/0553569805\/ref=nosim?tag=iandsorg-20&amp;linkCode=sb1&amp;camp=212353&amp;creative=380549\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" class=\" decorated-link\"><em><strong>Reborn in the Light<\/strong><\/em><\/a>. Bantam. Examining the effects of the near-death phenomenon and what survivors have come to believe about life, a collection of case stories offers their messages of hope, peace, joy, and life after life.<\/li>\n<li><strong>van Lommel, P.<\/strong> (2010). <a href=\"http:\/\/astore.amazon.com\/iandsorg-20\/detail\/0061777250\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" class=\" decorated-link\"><strong><em>Consciousness Beyond Life: The science of the near-death experience<\/em><\/strong><\/a>.
