Today is the last day for us to accomplish the 2024 New Year\u2019s goals that we set for ourselves twelve months ago. \u00a0But there\u2019s very little time left. \u00a0It\u2019s perhaps a little late, frankly, to form that new exercise habit for this year. \u00a0And no, you probably can\u2019t read all four of the Standard Works by midnight. \u00a0Not even if you binge-read Leviticus. \u00a0Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro don\u2019t work instantly, and most if not all surgical weight-loss centers are either (a) altogether closed today or (b) scheduled to close early in anticipation of tonight\u2019s New Year\u2019s Eve revels. \u00a0And, anyway, it\u2019s probably too late to set up an appointment. \u00a0Still, you needn\u2019t feel altogether down-hearted: \u00a0I\u2019m happy to announce that, for the remainder of the day today, right up until the ball drops at midnight, you can still make a donation<\/a> to the tax-exempt Interpreter Foundation and receive a 2024 write-off for it from the kind folks who run the Internal Revenue Service. \u00a0And that will make you feel a whole lot better about the year. \u00a0End 2024 in glorious triumph!<\/p>\n

Of course, you might reasonably want to postpone your donation for just a little while out of prudence, to see whether the Interpreter Foundation survives overnight and into tomorrow.<\/p>\n

Almost a dozen years ago now, on a far-away message board, a pseudonymous critic going by the moniker Bond James Bond<\/em>\u00a0took it upon himself to prophesy. \u00a0And this is what he said. \u00a0This is what Bond James Bond said. \u00a0He said:<\/p>\n

By Jan. 1, 2014 Interpreter will be dead. . . . \u00a0Either totally dead or down to token \u201cblog\u201d style postings. (Bond James Bond, 25 January 2013)<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Interpreter Foundation was about five and a half months old when Mr. Bond pronounced his oracle. \u00a0But the Foundation seems to have survived past the beginning of January 2014. (Prediction, as the saying from Yogi Berra goes, is very difficult. \u00a0Especially when it\u2019s about the future.) \u00a0Perhaps, though, Mr. Bond misread his crystal ball. \u00a0Maybe he made a typographical error. \u00a0It\u2019s possible<\/em> that he meant that Interpreter would be dead by the beginning of January 2024. \u00a0<\/em>(But then he\u2019d still <\/em>be a year off. \u00a0It\u2019s all so confusing!) \u00a0<\/em>Speaking for myself, personally, I\u2019m on absolute pins and needles. \u00a0Could tomorrow be the end for the Interpreter Foundation? \u00a0Inquiring minds want to know!<\/p>\n

The basic principles of The Other Side Academy (TOSA)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The Other Side Academy<\/a> and its associated projects, with which I\u2019ve had some slight and intermittent contact over the years \u2014 I\u2019ve spoken there two or three times and, in January 2024, I accompanied a group of its leaders on a marvelous and unique tour of Egypt \u2014 represents one of the most admirable, most phenomenal, charitable undertakings of which I know. \u00a0I think very highly of this group and its leaders and of what they\u2019ve done, and I want other people to hear about them. \u00a0Here\u2019s a great new milestone: \u00a0\u201c\u2018A dream come true\u2019: First of its kind homeless village opens in Utah \u2014 with more units to come\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

If you can\u2019t bring yourself to support the Interpreter Foundation<\/a>, or if you still have funds available to you for charitable purposes after<\/em> your donation to Interpreter, The Other Side Academy<\/a> is most definitely a cause that you should consider. \u00a0And, if you don\u2019t delay, a donation made before midnight tonight can still count with the IRS as a tax-deductible contribution for the current year \u2014 which, as of today, is 2024.<\/p>\n
