Gardner<\/a><\/p>\n The savants over on the Peterson Obsession Board have redundantly unveiled still another \u201cpretty damning\u201d specimen (their words) of my depraved idiocy: \u00a0On Friday last, I mentioned that the article that went up that day on the Interpreter Foundation website represented the 661st consecutive Friday on which the Interpreter Foundation had published at least one article. \u00a0Why did I make such a claim? \u00a0Because Friday\u2019s article represented the 661st consecutive Friday on which the Interpreter Foundation had published at least one article. \u00a0That\u2019s why.<\/p>\n A small handful of the Obsession Board\u2019s small group of active posters claims that I\u2019m lying, and that (of course!) I\u2019m attempting to deceive them (although, of course!, they\u2019re too savvy to be taken in by my ham-handed sophistry). \u00a0They seem to feel that I\u2019ve been equivocating, that, for instance, I\u2019ve been counting Thursday reprints as Friday articles in order to maintain the illusion that we\u2019ve published an article every Friday for the 661 Fridays since we launched our journal, hoping that nobody would notice my cunning sleight-of-hand. \u00a0Perhaps even \u2014 their reasoning is a bit opaque, to me at least \u2014 that I\u2019ve been counting occasional blog entries (or passing sparrows, or broadcasts of Music and the Spoken Word<\/em>, or whatever) in the total.<\/p>\n But I haven\u2019t been. \u00a0I said that the article that went up Friday on the Interpreter Foundation website represented the 661st consecutive Friday on which the Interpreter Foundation had published at least one article because it represented the 661st consecutive Friday on which the Interpreter Foundation had published at least one article. \u00a0For whatever it\u2019s worth, things have simply turned out that way. \u00a0It was never a goal of ours, and I didn\u2019t even begin to notice our uninterrupted streak until it was quite far along. \u00a0But I have an important announcement to make: \u00a0This coming Friday will be the 662nd Friday in a row on which the Interpreter Foundation has published at least one article. \u00a0That, friends, is how running totals work<\/em>.<\/p>\n I appreciate these two kind articles that were occasioned by the very premature passing of former Utah Congresswoman Mia Love. \u00a0The first of them briefly mentions her Latter-day Saint faith:<\/p>\n I had high hopes for Sister Love\u2019s political future representing my adopted home state and, in a very real fashion, representing our shared faith. \u00a0But she collided, first, with a transmogrified Republican Party and then, thereafter, with brain cancer. \u00a0Such is mortality. \u00a0Such is this fallen world.<\/p>\n Thinking, though, about the contributions that have been made by Latter-day Saint women, and the contributions that they are making right now and that they will make into the boundless future, I want to note that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints<\/a> recently released a new Gospel Topics essay on \u201cWomen\u2019s Service and Leadership in the Church.\u201d<\/a> \u00a0These essays are intended to be read.<\/p>\n Finally, in the spirit of the meme shown immediately above, here\u2019s a story from the Christopher Hitchens Memorial \u201cHow Religion Poisons Everything\u201d File<\/em>\u2122 that will nicely illustrate the blithering stupidity of theists. \u00a0It even includes an interesting seven-minute video: \u00a0\u201cBYU\u2013Hawaii: Rooted in Tradition, Focused on a Sustainable Future:\u00a0The university, along with the Laie Hawaii Temple and the Polynesian Cultural Center, are on track to be energy independent in 2026\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n And, as if more evidence were needed, here\u2019s yet another item from the Hitchens File<\/em> identifying a way in which adherence to the Latter-day Saints\u2019 ridiculous \u201cWord of Wisdom\u201d may infantilize those who follow it by depriving them of some of the rich life experiences that they might otherwise have enjoyed (e.g., earlier and, if they survive, more frequent heart attacks): \u00a0\u201cOpinion: Marijuana\u2019s newfound health problems\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n This is another Hitchens File<\/em> instance of religion corrupting a community and its history: \u00a0\u201cChurch Receives Award for Reconstruction, Preservation of Ohio Historic Site:\u00a0Dedicated in 2023, the Joseph and Emma Smith Home was honored for enriching and preserving Kirtland\u2019s historic and cultural heritage\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a>
