Nelson that I think especially appropriate for the Christmas season:<\/p>\n<div class=\"xdj266r x14z9mp xat24cr x1lziwak x1vvkbs x126k92a\">\n<blockquote>\n<div dir=\"auto\">In a coming day, you will present yourself before the Savior. You will be overwhelmed to the point of tears to be in His holy presence. You will struggle to find words to thank Him for paying for your sins, for forgiving you of any unkindness toward others, for healing you from the injuries and injustices of this life.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">You will thank Him for strengthening you to do the impossible, for turning your weaknesses into strengths, and for making it possible for you to live with Him and your family forever. His identity, His Atonement, and His attributes will become personal and real to you.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">But you don\u2019t have to wait until then. Choose to be one of His true disciples now. And when from death I\u2019m free,<br>\nI\u2019ll sing on, I\u2019ll sing on;<br>\nAnd when from death I\u2019m free, I\u2019ll sing on.<br>\nAnd when from death I\u2019m free,<br>\nI\u2019ll sing and joyful be,<br>\nAnd through eternity<br>\nI\u2019ll sing on, I\u2019ll sing on,<br>\nAnd through eternity I\u2019ll sing on.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<figure id=\"attachment_27146\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-27146\" style=\"width: 384px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/186\/2015\/10\/384px-KJV-King-James-Version-Bible-first-edition-title-page-1611.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-27146\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/186\/2015\/10\/384px-KJV-King-James-Version-Bible-first-edition-title-page-1611.jpg\" alt=\"1611KJV title page\" width=\"384\" height=\"600\"><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-27146\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The frontispiece of a 1611 King James Version Bible<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>I\u2019ve never felt bound \u2014 not even, quite, while teaching or speaking in church \u2014 to confine myself in English to the King James Version of the Bible, nor to any particular foreign-language version. \u00a0But I\u2019m really happy to see the openness to other translations in this new official statement from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints: \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org\/article\/holy-bible-translations-editions-church-of-jesus-christ\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">\u201cNew Guidance on Bible Translations for Latter-day Saints:\u00a0The handbook notes that some \u201cmay benefit from translations that are doctrinally clear and also easier to understand\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Having said this, I believe that the King James Version will (and should) continue to occupy a special place in the English-speaking congregations of the Church. \u00a0One major reason is that the language of the King James translators has clearly been a formative influence on the language and style of the English Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants, the Pearl of Great Price, and many of the other central discourses and ordinances of the Church. \u00a0Moreover, the language of the King James Bible \u2013which is exceptionally powerful and rich \u2014 has exercised an enormous influence upon English-speaking civilization, and I don\u2019t want us to lose that. \u00a0It can be a kind of literary education in itself;
