Today\u2019s reading is very brief. \u00a0I give it here in its entirety, in the King James Version:<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
Now when he was in Jerusalem at the\u00a0passover, in the feast\u00a0day<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0many believed in his\u00a0name, when they saw the\u00a0miracles which he did. \u00a0But Jesus did not\u00a0commit\u00a0himself unto them, because he knew\u00a0all\u00a0men, <\/i>a<\/span><\/span>nd needed not that any should testify of man: for he\u00a0knew what was in\u00a0man.<\/span>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n\n<\/p>
It\u2019s short, but it\u2019s fascinating. \u00a0Plainly, the author of John was awestruck by the knowledge of the human heart that he saw manifest in Jesus. \u00a0And, given the depth of Christ\u2019s recorded teachings and their perennially relevant insight, it\u2019s difficult to disagree with him.<\/p>\n
\n<\/p>
The passage suggests a certain reserve on Jesus\u2019 part. \u00a0He was becoming popular, but he didn\u2019t rely on popular acclaim. \u00a0He knew exactly what it was worth. \u00a0And, in just three brief years or so, the crowd \u2014 the mob \u2014 would turn hostile, screaming\u00a0\u201cCrucify him!\u201d<\/p>\n
