Luke 6:1-5<\/a><\/p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n
I\u2019m reminded of a story told (as I recall) by a General Authority some years ago.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
It was back when he was still a local leader. \u00a0He was headed toward a Sunday meeting in a rural area, and was running just a bit late. \u00a0Hurtling down the road, he passed a car pulled over to the side. \u00a0As he sped by, he saw that the car had a flat tire. \u00a0And then, in his rear view mirror, he saw that an elderly lady was looking at the flat tire, wondering what to do.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
He was late, though, and somebody else would surely stop. \u00a0He wasn\u2019t speaking, but he was presiding and it was important that he be there on time.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
He traveled on for perhaps a minute.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
But then it hit him. \u00a0He was headed to a meeting in which they would talk\u00a0about leading a Christlike life. \u00a0How could he simply leave her there, stranded along the side of a fairly isolated road? \u00a0How could he sit primly through a meeting about discipleship, having failed to help her?<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
He turned his car around, drove back, got out in his Sunday clothes, changed her tire, saw her on her way, and was quite late to his meeting. \u00a0But he had followed the Savior.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI desire mercy, and not sacrifice\u201d (Matthew 12:7).<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThe sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath\u201d (Mark 2:27).<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
Powerful teaching.<\/p>\n
