Jesus is illustrating the proper attitude toward the Sabbath.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
He doesn\u2019t say that it\u2019s okay to engage in trade on the Sabbath day, let alone to eat out in restaurants or attend movies.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
But the rules for the Sabbath weren\u2019t intended to free us from service and acts of kindness and charity\u00a0on that day. \u00a0In fact, the spirit of the Sabbath urges quite the contrary:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is lawful,\u201d he says at Matthew 12:12, \u201cto do good on the Sabbath.\u201d<\/p>\n
