I\u2019m very far from being a fan of the late Leon Trotsky (1879-1940). \u00a0But he knew what evils humans were capable of committing \u2014 he himself committed many of them, until the late Josef Stalin, his erstwhile comrade, permanently interrupted his murderous revolutionary career by means of an agent with an icepick in Mexico City \u2014 and he was, in his lethal and conspiratorial way, a political realist.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

With al-Qa\u2018ida and the boundlessly depraved \u201cIslamic State\u201d in view, I thought of this ominous but potentially helpful comment:<\/p>\n
