You may well have seen the acronym LGBT<\/em>, which stands for Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgendered<\/em> \u2014 in expressions such as the LGBT community<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

(I confess to some reservations about the use of the term community<\/em> in such language, but I\u2019ll let that pass for now.)<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

However, the odds are that you\u2019re behind the times. \u00a0And substantially so.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve actually met people \u2014 and I promise that I\u2019m not making this up! \u2014 who were unfamiliar with the expressions LGBTQIA and LGBTQIAA (that is, Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgendered Queer Intersex Asexual<\/em> and\u00a0Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgendered Queer Intersex Asexual Ally<\/em>).<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re one of those \u2014 no need to raise hands! \u2014 you urgently need to familiarize yourself with the term. \u00a0Here\u2019s a resource to help you:<\/p>\n

And such pathetically out-of-date folks had better bring themselves up to speed and get themselves on The Right Side of History, because a new and expanded expression \u2014<\/span> LGBTTQQFAGPBDSM<\/em><\/a>\u00a0\u00a0(parental advisory: this link, which comes from the official website of Connecticut\u2019s Wesleyan University, contains at least one word not suitable, yet!, for children) \u2014 has now appeared, and those who don\u2019t get with the rhetorical program are very likely to find themselves outed as haters, reactionaries, and bigots.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
