Only Luke recounts the story of Jesus raising the son of the widow of Nain from death.<\/p>\n

But all three of the synoptic gospels mention the healing of Peter\u2019s mother-in-law (\u03c0\u03b5\u03bd\u03b8\u03b5\u03c1\u03ac)<\/span>.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

It\u2019s striking that the first pope, as he\u2019s often regarded, had<\/em> a mother-in-law. \u00a0That fact rather suggests, unless I\u2019m missing something, that he was married<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

The traditional site of the home of Peter in Capernaum is one of my favorite tour stops when we take groups to Israel<\/a>, because I think the case for its authenticity is quite strong. \u00a0Which means that it\u2019s one spot \u2014 and, anyway, Capernaum\u2019s not that big \u2014 where we can be quite confident that Jesus was actually there.<\/p>\n
