It has always seemed strange to me \u00a0. . . \u00a0the things we admire in men, kindness and generosity, openness, honesty, understanding and feeling, are the concomitants of failure in our system. And those traits we detest, sharpness, greed, acquisitiveness, meanness, egotism and self-interest, are the traits of success. And while men admire the quality of the first they love the produce of the second.<\/span><\/p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n

I \u2018m not sure that I completely agree with Steinbeck here, but there\u2019s\u00a0more\u00a0truth in what he says than I like.<\/p>\n
