I\u2019m struck by some aspects of the article:<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Saturday\u2019s news \u201csaddened\u201d Ordain Women Executive Board Chairwoman Debra Jenson.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are profoundly troubled by a definition of apostasy that seems to include members asking sincere questions of our leaders,\u201d Jenson said in the group\u2019s news release.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Compare Ms. Jenson\u2019s suggestion that Ms. Kelly was excommunicated for \u201casking sincere questions\u201d of Church leaders to her reference to those \u2014 seemingly the same group \u2014 who \u201cpublicly support ordination for women.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

The latter suggests that the punctuation shouldn\u2019t be \u201cOrdain Women?\u201d but, instead, \u201cOrdain Women!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cOnce the church changes to be a more inclusive place and once women are ordained,\u201d Kelly said then, \u201cthat\u2019s a place I\u2019d feel welcome.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Again, I must be missing the question. \u00a0Taking \u201ca stand\u201d in a \u201cstruggle for gender justice\u201d seems at least slightly different than requesting a clarification, or seeking more information. \u00a0Maybe I need to refine my skills with the\u00a0English language. \u00a0(Ms. Kelley herself\u00a0might well\u00a0say so.<\/a>)<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

And Ms. Kelly\u2019s announcement that her husband, Neil Ransom, will be resigning his membership in the Church is also difficult (for me, at least) to construe as a question.<\/p>\n
