\u00a0<\/p>\n
This is an exhortation to absolutely fearless discipleship.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
Even those who can kill the body have no real power over the followers of Christ, who should, rather, fear spiritual<\/em> death or damage to their souls.<\/p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n
They \u2014 we \u2014 are to proclaim the Gospel openly.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
If his purported disciples deny him before men, which I take to mean not only flatly rejecting Christ but also failing to proclaim him \u2014 he will deny them, or fail to acknowledge them, to his Father. \u00a0Which means that they will have no advocate, no mediator, at the judgment bar of God. \u00a0But if we acknowledge him before men, he will step before the Father on our behalf, claiming us as his. \u00a0It\u2019s our only hope.<\/p>\n
