I\u2019m not sure whether I first met him in Jerusalem in 1993; it\u2019s possible that I met him prior to that year \u2014 I vaguely think that I did \u2014 but that was our first significant encounter.<\/span><\/p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n
He presented a very stimulating paper \u00a0that he\u2019s working on, regarding\u00a0a puzzling anthropomorphic image of God found in the pseudepigraphic Odes of Solomon 19. \u00a0Then we talked informally about\u00a0the paper, sharing reactions and offering additional references and observations.<\/span><\/p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n
Good clean academic fun.<\/span><\/p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n
Afterwards, a smaller group of us (including my wife) joined him for\u00a0dinner and excellent conversation in BYU\u2019s still quite new University Guest House, which is a very congenial place.<\/p>\n
