Moreover, I\u2019m serenely confident that they won\u2019t be the last.<\/p>\n

What distinguishes the \u201cNew Atheism\u201d from the old familiar variety is its aggressiveness, and its insistence that it owes no respect to religious faith. \u00a0Maybe not exactly the same thing but also, I think, not unrelated: \u00a0Dissent from the teachings and policies of the Restored Church is taking on a much more \u201cin your face\u201d attitude than it once did.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

I really like the response of Erin Hallstrom, who was there in the Conference Center on Saturday afternoon:<\/p>\n

There are several of us, I think, who still sustain the Brethren and accept the claims of Mormonism<\/a>, and I agree with Sister Hallstrom\u00a0\u2014 think of 2 Nephi 2<\/a> \u2014 that opposition makes our sustaining vote for Church leadership less routine and, therefore, more meaningful.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

I\u2019m happy to raise my right arm to the square. \u00a0With many others, my wife and I did precisely that while listening at home on Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n
