These passages will ring immediately true to anybody who\u2019s spent time in the Holy Land. \u00a0My question, though, is, Where would somebody in Palestine find soil that isn\u2019t<\/em> stony ground? \u00a0(That\u2019s a bit of an overstatement. \u00a0But not much.)<\/p>\n

Anybody who\u2019s attempted to teach the Gospel as a missionary will also recognize the different responses listed here: \u00a0There are those in whom the Gospel takes no root at all. \u00a0And those who receive the Gospel enthusiastically but soon lose their initial excitement and fall away. \u00a0And those who aren\u2019t fruitful in the Gospel because worldly influences overcome them. \u00a0And, of course, finally, there are those who accept it, love it, and live it.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

I\u2019m intrigued by the fact, which may or may not actually be significant, that, according to these passages, even among the righteous who receive the Gospel and remain faithful to it, there are differing levels of \u201cfruitfulness.\u201d \u00a0Three<\/a>, to be precise.<\/p>\n
