You may have heard that a screening of American Sniper<\/em> was cancelled at the University of Michigan last week because it was considered provocative. \u00a0As a replacement, authorities there decided to show the intellectually stimulating and culturally rich film Paddington<\/em> instead. \u00a0(I\u2019m not making this up.)<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Apparently, though, the stuffed bear community protested, because the powers-that-be there in Ann Arbor soon went back<\/em> to American Sniper<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Still,\u00a0the principle of protecting students at American colleges and universities from thoughts that might challenge them and from ideas that diverge from academic leftist orthodoxy remains a sound one. \u00a0What more appropriate place could there possibly be to protect, shelter,\u00a0and cocoon young minds\u00a0against dissonance than\u00a0an institution of higher learning?<\/p>\n

Incidentally, in this spirit, here\u2019s a nice piece about an attempt at language reform that would, if successfully implemented, protect young people and others from dangerous ideas in the future. \u00a0It would spare our overworked academic bureaucrats the necessity of having to keep everybody under close surveillance and of constant intervention to stamp out thoughtcrime:<\/p>\n
