I was delighted to see the following sent out to the faculty and staff of Brigham Young University today as the \u201cweekly quote\u201d from BYU\u2019s Center for Faith and Learning:<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIn a way, LDS scholars at BYU and elsewhere are a little bit like the builders of the temple in Nauvoo who worked with a trowel in one hand and a musket in the other. \u00a0Today scholars building the temple of learning must also pause on occasion to defend the Kingdom. \u00a0I personally think this is one of the reasons the Lord established and maintains this University. \u00a0The dual role of builder and defender is unique and ongoing. \u00a0I am grateful we have scholars today who can handle, as it were, both trowels and muskets.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

I heard this address when he delivered it on 19 March 2004. \u00a0 He died just four months later.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

The quote above is remarkably consistent with the \u201cweekly quote\u201d from Elder Jeffrey R. Holland<\/a> that was sent out seven days ago by the Center for Faith and Learning.<\/p>\n
