But, thanks to Nathaniel Hancock, I\u2019ve now read the speech that Princeton\u2019s heroic and invaluable Robert George<\/a> delivered during BYU\u2019s very recent commencement exercises:<\/p>\n

I\u2019m glad that he said what he said, and that he said it at BYU at this particular time.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

I had long imagined that BYU was immune to the drift that had occurred at other schools. \u00a0However, I now realize that we\u2019re vulnerable, too, and that real effort and hard decisions are required to maintain the University\u2019s divine mandate. \u00a0In some cases, misguided decisions have been made, or permitted, that will need to be undone.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

But the very fact that Professor George was invited to BYU \u2014 and that he has such close ties<\/a> to leaders of the Church and the University \u2014 offers clear reason for optimism.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

I commend his relatively brief speech to your notice.<\/p>\n
