I\u2019ve long admired Matt Holland, whom I consider a friend. \u00a0He\u2019s been, so far as I can see, an able, innovative, and adventurous president at UVU, and he was an excellent teacher and scholar while he was at BYU. \u00a0(His 2007 Georgetown University Press book,\u00a0Bonds of Affection: Civic Charity and the Making of America,\u00a0<\/i>is a fine specimen of socio-political reflection.)<\/p>\n

I admire him even more now.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
But I\u2019m troubled by\u00a0the plainly obvious tendency among advocates of same-sex marriage, who\u2019re feeling very confident these days, not only to seek the legal enshrinement of a redefined concept of marriage but to stigmatize, marginalize, demonize, and, if possible, silence those who disagree with them. \u00a0It\u2019s an evil trend, and there\u2019s an ugly totalitarian streak to it.<\/p>\n
