I\u2019m late on this, but, as I write, it\u2019s still Mother\u2019s Day here in Utah. \u00a0So, although I\u2019ll be hasty, I\u2019m going ahead.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

I would like to pay tribute to two\u00a0additional moms, beside my own.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

To my mother in law, who passed away after a long and difficult illness just over two years ago. \u00a0She was a remarkable woman, who passed her love of music and drama on to my wife, who gave many hours of service in Relief Society and the Denver Temple, who was curious and interested,\u00a0who found delight in interesting people, who tolerated me with undeserved good humor.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

And to my wife. \u00a0I heartily dislike sentimentality and schmaltz, and Mother\u2019s Day can be \u2014 virtually always is<\/em> \u2014 full up to the gunwales with precisely that. \u00a0But the simple and indisputable fact is that she really is a better person than I am. \u00a0By far. \u00a0Unselfish, charitable, devoted to her children and her parents and her siblings as well as to others, indefatigably kind. \u00a0Supportive \u2014 and tolerant \u2014 of me, often at great cost to herself. \u00a0(The song Wind Beneath My Wings<\/em><\/a> could have been written for her.) \u00a0She\u2019s a true disciple of Christ, who, Acts 10:38 says simply, \u201cwent about doing good.\u201d \u00a0When I consider her sheer goodness, I\u2019m reminded of a comment from the Prophet Joseph Smith: \u00a0\u201cA man filled with the love of God is not content with blessing his family alone, but ranges through the whole world, anxious to bless the whole human race.\u201d \u00a0Such is the woman I was fortunate enough to marry, well beyond my merits. \u00a0I\u2019m honored and humbled that she is my wife.<\/span><\/p>\n
