LDS Church<\/a> movie. \u00a0(Laziness and licentiousness don\u2019t pay.) \u00a0Musically and visually, though, not so much.<\/p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n
While traveling in Israel, I read Gottfried Keller\u2019s 1860s novella Kleider machen Leute<\/em> (\u201cClothes Make the Man,\u201d or, more literally, \u201cClothes Make People\u201d). \u00a0Keller is \u2014 or, at least, still was<\/em> when I lived there \u2014 beloved in his native Switzerland, but I had never seriously read anything by him. \u00a0This was a really funny story, though, and would make a good and entertaining movie.<\/p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n
Otherwise, when I was stuck on airplanes during our recent travels, I watched several films and read Jack Reacher novels. \u00a0For years, I\u2019ve had high ambitions to read lots of serious stuff while immobilized and uncomfortable on a plane. \u00a0But it\u2019s never really worked out very well, because I\u2019m typically too tired on long flights to read heavy books. \u00a0So, this time, I just had fun. \u00a0Didn\u2019t even try<\/em> to read ponderous stuff. \u00a0And it worked out really well.<\/p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n
Incidentally, the two Jack Reacher novels that I read, Personal<\/em> and Tripwire<\/em>, were well and cleverly written, and (especially the first one, which is downright chaste) reasonably clean. \u00a0(My wife tells me that at least one other one, The Affair<\/em>, is very much not<\/em> clean.)<\/p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n
