I\u2019m not particularly enthused with the idea of abolishing Sunday School. \u00a0I served for more than eight years on the Church\u2019s Gospel Doctrine writing committee, generating curriculum material for the Sunday School. \u00a0I\u2019ve spent much of my adult life teaching Sunday School, my absolute favorite among Church callings, and, in fact, that\u2019s what I\u2019m doing now. \u00a0Moreover, I don\u2019t think, on the whole, that Latter-day Saints are suffering from a surfeit of\u00a0knowledge about the scriptures and our history.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
That said, it\u2019s absolutely the case that our Sundays can easily become, and often are, hectic and crammed full of meetings. \u00a0Far removed from the day of rest that the Sabbath is scripturally designed to be. \u00a0Leaving little time for scripture study, reading, and reflection, little time for visits and for family.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
Sometimes I hear about \u201cMormon burn-out.\u201d \u00a0I\u2019m not sure whether this is a widespread problem or not. \u00a0But, if it is, non-restful Sundays may be among the causes.<\/p>\n
