As the Wall Street Journal<\/em> pointed out in an excellent editorial published on Tuesday (\u201cThe West\u2019s Refugee Crisis\u201d<\/a>), \u201cThis is what the world looks like when the West abandons its responsibility to maintain world order. . . \u00a0the worst humanitarian catastrophe of the 21st century. . . . \u00a0The conceit has been that while all of this is tragic, the Middle East has to work out its own pathologies and what happens there will be contained there. \u00a0But by now we know that what happens in Damascus doesn\u2019t stay in Damascus. . . . \u00a0The lesson is that while intervention has risks, so does abdication.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

And, as the Journal<\/em> also points out (\u201cAnother Syria Failure\u201d<\/a>), American abdication has now apparently invited Vladimir Putin into the Middle East.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

President Obama promised us \u201cchange.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

He\u2019s kept his promise.<\/p>\n
