We\u2019re more familiar with this story as the \u201cparable of the talents\u201d (in Matthew) than as the \u201cparable of the pounds.\u201d<\/p>\n

But the point is the same in both accounts.<\/p>\n

The concept of stewardship is essential, in my view, to a proper understanding of the Plan of Salvation. \u00a0We\u2019re entrusted with gifts, resources, talents (in the modern sense), opportunities, and so forth, in order to see what we\u2019ll do with them, and how we\u2019ll use them.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
Simply sitting on them, though, isn\u2019t an option.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
If we behave righteously and responsibly with regard to the things temporarily given to us here for our care \u2014 including our families \u2014 we\u2019ll be permitted to keep them (or will be given their superior equivalent, in the case of purely this-worldly items) in the celestial world.<\/p>\n
