A high point last night was dinner with an Old Order Amish family, Joe and Sarah Miller and three of their granddaughters. \u00a0This area represents the fourth largest concentration of Old Order Amish in the United States.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
I admire the Amish. \u00a0I wouldn\u2019t choose their specific lifestyle, but I admire the consistency and thoroughness of their commitment to their faith, and the simplicity and focus of their lives. \u00a0In some ways, they inspire me.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
At the end, one of our group suggested that we share songs. \u00a0We sang \u201cI am a child of God\u201d \u2014 rather well, I thought \u2014 and they sang a lovely song, with fairly complex harmony, auf Deutsch<\/em>. \u00a0I didn\u2019t recognize it, and, unfortunately, I didn\u2019t catch the title. \u00a0I\u2019m now interested, though, in tracking down a recording of Amish hymnology.<\/p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n
It was a pleasant evening.<\/p>\n
