When I was younger, I wanted to be an architect. \u00a0But I\u2019m utterly and absolutely devoid of even the slightest visual talent.<\/p>\n

I know. \u00a0That hasn\u2019t stopped some<\/em> architects. \u00a0But it stopped me<\/em>.<\/p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n
Which reminds me, somehow, of Jimmy Stewart. \u00a0He graduated from Princeton University with a degree in architecture, but never practiced. \u00a0Instead, Hollywood grabbed him. \u00a0Later, he commented that the world owed a debt to the movie industry for having spared it the damage that a mediocre architect might have done. \u00a0I don\u2019t know what he would have been like in architecture, but I\u2019m certainly grateful that he made films. \u00a0My critics, by contrast, might well wish that I\u2019d gone ahead and devoted my life to designing gas stations.<\/p>\n
