Some people have quirky touristic interests. \u00a0I certainly do.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

I love, for example, to visit college and university campuses.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

And iconic, culturally significant bookstores.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Thus, for example, I\u2019ve made my pilgrimages \u2014 multiple times in each case \u2014 to Blackwell\u2019s<\/a> in Oxford, to\u00a0Powell\u2019s<\/a> in Portland, to\u00a0Schoenhof\u2019s<\/a> near Harvard, to New York City\u2019s Strand <\/a>bookstore, and to at least the reincarnation of Shakespeare and Company<\/a> in Paris.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Accordingly, although our recent weekend trip to San Francisco wasn\u2019t really for tourist purposes, I nonetheless paid\u00a0my respects to\u00a0Lawrence Ferlinghetti\u2019s<\/a>\u00a0legendary City Lights Bookstore<\/a> on Columbus Avenue.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

And then we strolled on to Scoma\u2019s<\/a>, near Pier 47 on Fisherman\u2019s Wharf, for one of the best seafood meals I can remember. \u00a0(I had the \u201cMixed Seafood Grill,\u201d which is sometimes made up of salmon, halibut, and cod. \u00a0On Friday, though, it was salmon, swordfish<\/em>, and cod \u2014 and it was wonderful<\/em>.)<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n
