John 14:27-31<\/a><\/p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n
Apart from noting that Jesus\u2019 declaration that \u201cthe Father is greater than I\u201d has substantial theological significance (indicating, for instance, an important distinction between Father and Son), I really can\u2019t see, once again, how I can improve very easily on the text itself, which I offer here \u2014 for the sake of freshness \u2014 in the New International Version:<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
27\u00a0<\/span>Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.\u00a0I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled\u00a0and do not be afraid.<\/span><\/p>\n28\u00a0<\/span>\u201cYou heard me say, \u2018I am going away and I am coming back to you.\u2019\u00a0If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father,\u00a0for the Father is greater than I.<\/span>\u00a029\u00a0<\/span>I have told you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe.<\/span>\u00a030\u00a0<\/span>I will not say much more to you, for the prince of this world\u00a0is coming. He has no hold over me,<\/span>\u00a031\u00a0<\/span>but he comes so that the world may learn that I love the Father and do exactly what my Father has commanded me.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\u201cCome now; let us leave.<\/span><\/p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n
