In 2013, a group of local Muslims, horrified by Islamist attacks on Christian churches, reportedly formed a protective ring around the Coptic Church of St. George in the governorate of Sohag, which is located roughly midway along Egypt\u2019s Nile Valley. This photograph is said to show them. Unfortunately, the church was nonetheless severely damaged by arson shortly after this, at the hands of angry supporters of Mohamed Morsi, the just-deposed president of Egypt who was affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood. \u00a0The provenance of the photograph is unclear (at least to unsay me).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Many stories out of the Middle East are discouraging, depressing, and painful.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Some, though, are inspiring. \u00a0Here\u2019s one that I posted quite a while ago. \u00a0It seems important to bring it up again, since I\u2019ve recently encountered (easily refuted) claims that Christian churches aren\u2019t permitted in Muslim countries. \u00a0It refers to an incident quite distinct from the one shown above:<\/p>\n
