Star Wars<\/em> are\u00a0precisely\u00a0the kind of middle- to lowbrow stuff that third-rate\u00a0minds such as I\u00a0eagerly\u00a0lap up.<\/p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n
Now, I\u2019m certainly not confusing Star Wars<\/em> with Shakespeare\u2019s King Lear<\/em>, Sophocles\u2019 Antigone<\/em>, Goethe\u2019s Faust<\/em>, Eliot\u2019s Murder in the Cathedral<\/em>, or Frayn\u2019s Copenhagen<\/em>\u00a0\u2014 all personal\u00a0favorites of mine that I\u2019ve both read (in the original languages: I, too, can\u00a0show off) and seen in production \u2014 but I had a fun time at the movie theater tonight, and I\u2019m not so insecure that I need to\u00a0pretend otherwise.<\/p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n
On the whole, I would be slightly more impressed with those\u00a0who like to boast of their intellectual depth and cultural sophistication if they spent less time telling others of their remarkable mental qualities and aesthetic capacities and actually demonstrated some of their purportedly deep thinking and incisive cultural insight.<\/p>\n

If you haven\u2019t seen the new Star Wars<\/em>\u00a0movie yet, you\u2019re a rare Americano indeed. \u00a0But I bet that you\u2019ll enjoy your time in the theater. \u00a0And, if you do, don\u2019t be ashamed to admit it.<\/p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n
