Kudos to Senator Ben Sasse (R-NE)<\/a> for raising the not-unimportant issue of Donald Trump\u2019s personal character, as that character is\u00a0represented by what seems to be a remarkably tawdry social\u00a0life:<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

And kudos to the Southern Baptist Convention\u2019s Russell Moore, for asking the question \u201cHave Evangelicals who support Trump lost their values?\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

People have tiptoed around such matters, perhaps feeling that we\u2019re too sophisticated in these wonderful days to take note of them. \u00a0But Mr. Trump\u2019s\u00a0repeated violations\u00a0of solemn promises \u2014 his own and those of others \u2014 ought to give his supporters at least momentary pause, even if the promises were only marital vows and even if they merely betrayed women and children.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

And, if only on the practical political level, there\u2019s this: \u00a0One of Mrs. Clinton\u2019s potentially major liabilities with women and young people is her well-documented history<\/a> of helping to cover up\u00a0her husband\u2019s sexual adventures,\u00a0up to and including alleged rapes. \u00a0We should never have been tolerant of such things, but surely we\u2019re less accepting of them now than we once were, and many young voters, who may not have heard of such women as Juanita Broaddrick, Kathleen Willey, and Paula Jones, won\u2019t be pleased to learn about them (as they very possibly\u00a0will) between now and November. \u00a0But, if the Republican nominee is a boastful serial adulterer, the contrast with the Clintons will be far less sharp than it ought to be.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Finally, shame on any Evangelicals out there who, while claiming to be conservatives, stayed home during the 2012 election because Mitt Romney \u201cisn\u2019t a Christian\u201d and\/or because he was a \u201cflip-flopper\u201d \u2014 and yet are now enthusiastically supporting the quite spectacularly unprincipled Donald Trump.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Really. \u00a0Shame on them.<\/p>\n
