This is the site, in today\u2019s Czech Republic, of the village of Lidice. \u00a0The town first appears in historical records from the early fourteenth century. \u00a0In 1942, however, in retaliation for the assassination of Reichsprotektor Reinhard Heydrich, Lidice was utterly obliterated \u2014 with its men, its women, and its children \u2014 by order of the F\u00fchrer, Adolf Hitler, and SS\u00a0commander\u00a0Heinrich Himmler.
