I announced many months ago that I would not, indeed could not, support Mr. Donald Trump for the presidency of the United States.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

My position is unchanged. \u00a0I will not vote for him.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Never. \u00a0Ever.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll vote for conservative Republicans, but I will not \u2014 because as a matter of principle, I cannot<\/em> \u2014 vote for a non-conservative. \u00a0And I most definitely cannot vote for an unprincipled, fraudulent demagogue of remarkably poor character and unbelievably boorish manners.<\/p>\n

Nor can I vote for Hillary Clinton.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

This leaves me in a dilemma. \u00a0Never before in my life have I faced\u00a0a presidential election in which I could vote for neither of the two major-party candidates. \u00a0I\u2019ve had reservations about both candidates many times, of course. \u00a0But I\u2019ve always concluded that one of them was acceptable.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Not this time.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

And I haven\u2019t yet decided what to do about that.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

I have serious reservations about the Libertarian Party and its likely candidate, though I have libertarian inclinations on a number of issues (chiefly economic). \u00a0I may yet go that way.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Or I may choose some other third-party candidate. \u00a0Or some write-in alternative.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

In the meantime, though, I\u2019ve decided to toss my own hat into the ring:<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

I hereby declare myself a candidate for the presidency of the United States of America. \u00a0If elected, I will serve. \u00a0I would be honored to have your vote.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

My views on economics, the judiciary, foreign policy, and other such issues are much more developed than those of Mr. Donald Trump.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s roughly equivalent, of course, to identifying Britton Hill \u2014 345 feet above sea level \u2013as the highest point in Florida: \u00a0The fact that I\u2019ve given policy matters\u00a0more than five minutes of thought already means that I\u2019m far ahead of the virtually-inevitable Republican nominee.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

I am, moreover, conservative, whereas neither Ms. Clinton nor Mr. Trump is.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

I would be very, very good. \u00a0Trust me. \u00a0I know lots of words. \u00a0I\u2019ll make America great again. \u00a0I\u2019ll have a fantastic foreign policy. \u00a0People will have lots and lots of jobs.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Vote for me!<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Or vote for yourself. \u00a0Or for some other candidate of your choice. \u00a0Or vote for your next-door neighbor or your bishop or your Relief Society president or your cat.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Or, if you must, vote for the lamentable Hillary or the execrable Mr. Trump. \u00a0But know that, if you do, you\u2019ll get what you deserve.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, though, I\u2019ll get what you deserve, too.<\/p>\n

Life really isn\u2019t fair.<\/p>\n
