I\u2019m repeatedly asked why Muslims don\u2019t condemn Islamist terrorism.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

I myself think that there ought to be a perfectly deafening response to murders in the name of Islam, and that the reaction, thus far, hasn\u2019t been loud enough or, in some ways, clear enough.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

But it\u2019s simply wrong to say that there have been no condemnations.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Take, for example, the horrendous and vile mass murder in Orlando, Florida:<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

I\u2019m traveling\u00a0right now and have little time to look\u00a0for such things. \u00a0Still, in just a couple of minutes I was easily able to find the following:<\/p>\n

And I\u2019m sure that there are many other such statements. \u00a0I simply can\u2019t\u00a0gather them and list them right now.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, driving into Stockholm from the airport today, our taxi driver was an Iraqi Kurd who has been here in Sweden for twenty-five years. \u00a0We had a fascinating conversation. \u00a0He especially opened up after I expressed my admiration for the heroism of contemporary Kurdish fighters and for the great twelfth-century Kurdish Muslim warrior Salah al-Din (Saladin) and\u00a0voiced the opinion that, in a just universe, there would be a free and independent Kurdistan today.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

He grew quite animated when we turned to the subject of ISIS. \u00a0They\u2019re mere \u201canimals,\u201d he said repeatedly. \u00a0I was afraid that he was going to wreck our car in crowded traffic as he proudly displayed several photographs on his iPhone to us of his cousin, the Kurdish Peshmerga general Hussein Mansour<\/a>, who was killed\u00a0in a battle with ISIS back in 2015. \u00a0\u201cOnly two countries are helping us,\u201d he said. \u00a0\u201cThe United States and Israel.\u201d \u00a0He and his son have volunteered to return to Kurdistan to fight against ISIS and on behalf of the Kurdish people.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

It was a fascinating drive.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

And, when we arrived at our hotel in Stockholm\u2019s Tegelbacken area, we were pleased to find a Turkish restaurant just around the corner. \u00a0It was very good \u2014 I had the Iskander d\u00f6ner \u2014 though somebody needs to correct at least one item on their English menu: \u00a0I suspect that barbecued aborigines<\/em> should probably read barbecued aubergines.<\/em><\/p>\n
