I also note with interest, though, how the archaeologists are piecing this prehistory together: \u00a0They haven\u2019t, as a matter of fact, found the animal bones that would confirm their thesis \u2014 though their argument seems pretty solid without such tangible paleobiological evidence. \u00a0Rather, they\u2019re extrapolating from other kinds of data, inferring the necessary existence of such animals and such a different environment indirectly, from other kinds of information.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
This sort of thing often occurs in studies of the distant past. \u00a0And I can\u2019t help thinking, in this regard, about arguments concerning the historicity of the Book of Mormon. \u00a0The cases aren\u2019t identical, of course. \u00a0They\u2019re quite different in many ways. \u00a0But not altogether.<\/p>\n
