Thereafter, Matt Roper, my longtime friend and former Maxwell Institute colleague, shared an interesting, well-illustrated presentation on swords in Mesoamerica and in the Book of Mormon \u2014 responding, mostly implicitly, to claims by critics that Pre-Columbian Mesoamericans had<\/em> no swords. \u00a0I consider this objection pretty completely neutralized now.<\/p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n
Wendy Ulrich delivered some extremely well-received remarks on women and priesthood. \u00a0I liked them. \u00a0(In part, they mirror thoughts that I\u2019ve had for years but left unexpressed.) \u00a0And the audience liked them, too; many gave her a standing ovation.<\/p>\n

Jill Derr offered a candid look at the reestablishment of the Relief Society late in Brigham Young\u2019s tenure as president of the Church \u2014 and, inevitably, at some of the controversy that surrounded the shutting down of the original Relief Society at Nauvoo.<\/p>\n

Finally, Ally Isom made\u00a0a heartfelt for civil, uncontentious dialogue, as befits disciples of Christ.<\/p>\n
