First, I won\u2019t be speaking at BYU Education Week this year. \u00a0I genuinely regret that, but I had little choice: \u00a0I\u2019ll be out of the country and the commute would simply be too long. \u00a0I\u2019ve mentioned this before, but some likely missed my announcement. \u00a0I\u2019m sorry to disappoint, or to provide reason for rejoicing.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

If you want to hear me in Oslo, Norway, though, I\u2019ll be speaking there on Sunday evening<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Second, I\u2019m trying to remind myself to check private messages on Facebook. \u00a0But I rarely do. \u00a0For those who have sent me such messages in the past, the odds are very high that I haven\u2019t responded to you. \u00a0Please know that it\u2019s not personal. \u00a0I just really don\u2019t use Facebook much, except to \u201cadvertise\u201d blog posts here and to respond to comments on the threads so generated. \u00a0For one thing, I\u2019m a geezer and I\u2019m not really into social media. \u00a0(I already spend more time on this blog and attendant discussions than I should. \u00a0By far.) \u00a0For another, I just don\u2019t know<\/em> much about Facebook. \u00a0I\u2019ll try to do better.<\/p>\n

Finally, the request:<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

I learned only relatively recently that Facebook pages typically have a limit of 5000 friends. \u00a0My \u201cpersonal\u201d Facebook page<\/a> is right up against that limit, and has been for months. \u00a0In fact, it\u2019s bumped into it several times. \u00a0But I\u2019ve been rejecting a lot of \u201cfriend\u201d requests over the past two or three months, and have actually been \u201cunfriending\u201d people. \u00a0(For a long time, I simply accepted every \u201cfriend\u201d request. \u00a0\u201cWhat could it hurt?\u201d I thought. \u00a0But I\u2019m now rejecting such requests from people \u2014 most of them, appropriately enough\u00a0in view of\u00a0my manifest charms, attractive single women! \u2014 who plainly don\u2019t know me and who show no actual sign of caring about any of the issues and subjects that I care about, and, to some extent, I\u2019ve been pruning my \u201cfriend\u201d list of such folks when I come across them.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

I apologize if, while trying to minimize and eliminate \u201cspam,\u201d I\u2019ve rejected a request from somebody who really did want to \u201cfriend\u201d me for my insights, my gorgeousness, and my inspiring humility.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Still, though, I\u2019ll soon run into that 5000-friend ceiling.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

So what I\u2019m asking is this:<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re not actually a friend \u201cfriend\u201d but, for some bizarre reason, want to follow what I\u2019m up to, what I\u2019m publishing, what I\u2019m posting on my blog, please consider going over to my other, much newer, Facebook page<\/a>. \u00a0I\u2019m told, though I don\u2019t know whether this is true because, as I say, I really don\u2019t know much about Facebook, that \u201cliking\u201d that page will do the trick. \u00a0And, as it\u2019s a \u201cPublic Figure\u201d page \u2014 my my, does that sound self-important!<\/em> \u2014 there is no upper limit, of 5000 or any other arbitrary figure, to the number of people who can \u201clike\u201d it.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

And it might\u00a0even be helpful, I guess, if you\u2019re not actually a relative or a neighbor or a real-world friend of mine, if you were to \u201cunfriend\u201d me on the first page<\/a> when you\u2019ve \u201cliked\u201d the other page<\/a>. \u00a0That way, the first\u00a0Facebook page will have more room for me to add \u201cfriends.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Does that make sense? \u00a0Do I know what I\u2019m talking about? \u00a0If anybody out there who actually knows much about Facebook can see that I\u2019m doing something stupid, I would appreciate a swift and clear warning.<\/p>\n
