However, he very likely\u00a0didn\u2019t say those words. \u00a0They probably originated with Nikita Khrushchev, who was, at the time, the ruler\u00a0of the Soviet Union. \u00a0At a\u00a0plenum of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union not long after the space flight, Khrushchev was reporting\u00a0on the Soviet campaign against\u00a0religious belief. \u00a0\u201cGagarin flew into space,\u201d said Khrushchev, \u201cbut didn\u2019t see any god there.\u201d<\/p>\n
