To say that I disagree with former Senator Harry Reid on many political issues would be to put the situation very, very mildly. \u00a0I am, as I\u2019ve explained multiple times, a serious political conservative with libertarian leanings (especially on economic issues). \u00a0Moreover, Senator Reid has said and done many things that have left me wondering how on earth he could justify them.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

But, for all that, he\u2019s an active and committed Latter-day Saint, and I\u2019ve read \u2014 and been personally told (by, among others, two then-serving LDS Republican senators) \u2014 that Senator Reid, of all the Latter-day Saints in\u00a0Congress, was probably the most helpful to the Church on matters such as foreign restrictions on missionaries and with regard to other issues where Church leaders sought assistance from government officials, and, whenever he could help, the most supportive of Church initiatives in Washington DC.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

So I\u2019m saddened to say that I\u2019ve heard certain stories of\u00a0really shameful treatment of Brother Reid by fellow Latter-day Saints. \u00a0They\u2019ve been painful to learn about. \u00a0I\u2019ve never heard him say anything on the topic, though, until now:<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cReid: No group is harder on me than fellow Mormons\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

In that light,\u00a0I was quite pleased to read the following:<\/p>\n
