This is an image from Hubble\u2019s Wide Field and Planetary Camera 2 (WFPC2) of quasar 3C 273, which resides in a giant elliptical galaxy in the constellation of Virgo (The Virgin), some 2.5 billion light years from Earth. It was the first quasar ever to be identified, being\u00a0discovered in the early 1960s by Allan Sandage, who also determined the value of the Hubble constant and first calculated the\u00a0age of the Universe. \u00a0(Image from ESA\/Hubble and NASA) \u00a0Much too late, I learned that Dr. Sandage lived in San Gabriel, California, just a few blocks from the house in which I grew up. \u00a0I would have loved to meet him.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The world is too complicated in all parts and interconnections to be due to chance alone. \u00a0I am convinced that the existence of life with all its order in each of its organisms is simply too well put together. \u00a0Each part of a living thing depends on all its other parts to function. \u00a0How does each part know? \u00a0How is each part specified at conception? \u00a0The more one learns of biochemistry the more unbelievable it becomes unless there is some type of organizing principle \u2014 an architect.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
