Now, before some of you begin posting comments about the intrinsic evil of Islam and Muslims, please note that this current bout of persecution is something new<\/em> \u2014 while Islam in Egypt isn\u2019t<\/em> new. \u00a0You might want to\u00a0ponder that. \u00a0Reflect on its significance. \u00a0Christians have been in Egypt since the first century. \u00a0They continue to be there. \u00a0The Arab conquest of Egypt in the mid-seventh century didn\u2019t exterminate them, nor anything like thereunto. \u00a0The process of Islamization was gradual; Egypt probably became majority Muslim (i.e., more than 50%) only in the mid-tenth century \u2014 that is, fully three centuries after the arrival of Arab Muslims to the Nile Valley.<\/p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n
Since I don\u2019t grant that Islam is irredeemably\u00a0evil, oppressive, and cruel, I\u2019m often accused of refusing to see any problems in the Islamic world. \u00a0This is nonsense. \u00a0I see them very clearly, and have seen them, directly and at first hand, for decades. \u00a0But the first step toward solving a problem is to see it accurately.<\/p>\n
