When I began to understand the extent of\u00a0Donald Trump\u2019s\u00a0intellectual limitations and emotional vulnerabilities, I became deeply concerned. \u00a0Couple those limitations and vulnerabilities\u00a0with Mr. Trump\u2019s\u00a0admiration for (and marked unwillingness to criticize)\u00a0Vladimir Putin<\/a> and with Mr. Putin\u2019s own competence, ambition, and opportunism, and . . . \u00a0Well, let me say that I\u2019m no less concerned today than I was a year ago.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

I say this as a long-standing conservative who still remembers the resolve of Barry Goldwater and Ronald Reagan and others (including classical Democrats like John F. Kennedy) to oppose Russian expansionism. \u00a0I\u2019ve awakened, it seems, in a brave new world.<\/p>\n
