An excellent video, not quite eight minutes long, about how the judicial murder\u00a0of Jesus was carried out. \u00a0It\u2019s tough, but the presentation isn\u2019t gruesome or gratuitously shocking, and, in my judgment, it\u2019s very useful for helping us to understand a little better the magnitude of the Savior\u2019s suffering and the extent, therefore, of his love for us. \u00a0Highly appropriate for Easter.<\/p>\n

In that context \u2014 and prompted by what the narrator says at about 6:30 in the video \u2014 I share again a quotation from the De incarnatione<\/em> of St. Athanasius of Alexandria (d. AD 373) that I posted a few days ago:<\/p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cHe, the Life of all, our Lord and Saviour, did not arrange the manner of his own death lest He should seem to be afraid of some other kind. \u00a0No. \u00a0He accepted and bore upon the cross a death inflicted by others, and those other His special enemies, a death which to them was supremely terrible and by no means to be faced; and He did this in order that, by destroying even this death, He might Himself be believed to be the Life, and the power of death be recognised as finally annulled. \u00a0A marvellous and mighty paradox has thus occurred, for the death which they thought to inflict on Him as dishonour and disgrace has become the glorious monument to death\u2019s defeat.\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n
