I\u2019ve often marveled for similar reasons at the horrified (mostly Evangelical) anti-Mormon reaction to the idea, advanced by some nineteenth-century Mormon leaders though never even remotely official doctrine, that Jesus might have been married. \u00a0And, for that matter, to the notion of an embodied God. \u00a0It\u2019s always seemed to me to reflect a profoundly unbiblical attitude toward sexuality and, indeed, toward corporeality and the physical universe as a whole \u2014 which, in Genesis, the God of the Bible repeatedly pronounces \u201cgood,\u201d even \u201cvery good.\u201d \u00a0Frankly, it often seems to me more like Platonism or Neoplatonism than like anything remotely related to the Hebrew prophets.<\/p>\n
