We spent much of the morning in the vicinity of the pyramids of Giza. \u00a0Some went into the Great Pyramid. \u00a0All of us rode\u00a0on camels or in horse carts around the pyramids for about an hour. \u00a0We also walked through the valley temple next to the Sphinx and then devoted\u00a0some time to looking at (and, in some cases, buying) papyri at the Merit Papyrus Institute.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Following\u00a0an excellent Egyptian grilled lunch, we spent a couple of hours in the Egyptian Museum, focusing on such items as the Narmer Palette, the treasures from\u00a0King Tutankhamen\u2019s tomb, the giant statue of Amenhotep III and Queen Tiye, and the Merneptah Stela<\/a>.<\/p>\n

We ended our travels with a relaxing felucca ride on the Nile in downtown Cairo.<\/p>\n

Incidentally, we\u2019re planning a tour \u2014 itinerary details and specific dates yet to be determined \u2014 in connection with the famous Oberammergau Passion Play, which will run from May into October of 2020\u00a0in the southern German state of Bavaria. \u00a0(The play is only performed every tenth year.) \u00a0If this interests you at all, watch the Cruise Lady site for announcements. \u00a0I\u2019m already looking forward to it, and I suspect that demand will be high.<\/p>\n
